How did modern church culture shift from house churches to cathedrals and church buildings with professionalized leadership?

The Roman Emperor Constantine (pictured) began institutionalizing Christianity in 321 A.D.

Before 321 A.D., between 100 A.D. and 300 A.D., Christianity grew from 25,000 to 20 million people in the Roman Empire where there were no seminaries, settled caretaker pastors, or Christian public places of worship.

This is why we read multiple times in the Bible, "This letter is from Paul, … I am also writing to the church that meets in your house. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace."

Today, people are going back to a more simple Christianity and taking personal responsibility for their spiritual growth.
